Ready To Handle Even The Most Complex Cases

Some attorneys try to offer as many practice areas as possible. But as the old saying goes, “a jack of all trades is a master of none.” By limiting his legal focus, Mr. Jones has gained an impressive depth of knowledge and often serves as a resource for other attorneys in these areas.

Here are some examples of how he has helped clients:

  • Successfully represented individuals who contested wills in Surrogate’s Court
  • Successfully represented individuals who have challenged accounts in Surrogate’s Court
  • Working to simplify many complex post-mortem taxation issues
  • Advising clients regarding insurance trusts
  • Advising fiduciaries on taxation matters concerning how living trusts are taxed once the grantor has passed
  • Extensive work concerning the annuity reporting requirements of qualified domestic trusts in addition to how specifically the marital deduction operates with respect to such trusts where there is a foreign spouse from a country that has a tax treaty with the United States
  • Representing a beneficiary of several trusts that had been in existence for about forty years until they were subsequently decanted. In that matter, Mr. Jones protected the rights of his ward by careful review of the tax returns of two of those trusts.
  • Representing clients in the United States Tax Court and before the Internal Revenue Service
  • Working on cases of all sizes, from multimillion-dollar estates to more modest ones
  • Serving as a guardian ad litem for more than 70 times

In addition to his work on behalf of clients, Mr. Jones also educates other legal professionals. He is a professor of trust and estate taxation at New York Law School, and he has taught approximately 50 continuing legal education courses on trusts, estates and taxation.
